A lot of what keeps South Carolina agriculture going isn’t always something you see.
Most people notice what ends up at the farmers market or in stores, but there’s a whole system behind that, and a big part of it starts with pollinators.
Bees do so much more than produce honey. Their work supports farms across the state, helping crops grow and keeping agriculture moving season after season. It’s something that often goes unnoticed, but it plays a much bigger role than most people realize.
And when something impacts them, it doesn’t just stay in one place, it spreads.
Recently, we experienced a fire in one of our bee yards and lost several hives. While any loss like that is difficult, moments like this bring attention to something bigger.
Because pollinators are such an important part of agriculture across South Carolina.
When hives are lost, it doesn’t just affect one operation. It can affect farms, crops, and the people who rely on them. That impact reaches further than it may seem at first.
And right now, that impact feels even more significant.
Across the state, many growers are already navigating a challenging season due to ongoing drought conditions. With less room for setbacks, every part of the agricultural system matters, especially pollinators.
Here at Edisto Gold Honey, everything is rooted in that connection. Supporting pollinators means supporting farms, and supporting farms means supporting the communities that depend on them.
It’s a reminder that agriculture is never just one thing, it’s a system, and every part of it matters.
That’s why community support is so important, especially during seasons like this one.
Choosing to support local farmers, beekeepers, and small businesses helps keep these systems going, even when conditions are difficult. It’s a simple choice, but one that has a real impact.
And it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Our entire team is so grateful for the outpouring of support from the community. The messages, encouragement, and willingness to show up have meant more than can be fully put into words.
At the end of the day, it’s about more than one moment.
It’s about the farms, the pollinators, and the people working every day to keep South Carolina growing and the community that continues to stand behind them.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
The Edisto Gold Honey Team
